Admissions

Current Admissions Policies

The Learning Academy Partnership (South West) is the admissions authority for all academies within our Trust.

Current Policies

The policies below detail the admission arrangements for our Academy and should be read in conjunction with the Primary and In Year Co-ordinated Schemes and other agreed policies of Devon Local Authority. All policies and procedures seek to comply with the requirements of the School Admissions Code.

There will be 19 reception places available in September 2021.

Come and visit us

If you are interested in your child attending our academy, you are welcome to come in and visit us. You can arrange a visit on 01548 560494 or by emailing admissions@lapsw.org. Our Admissions Officer will be able to discuss admissions with you.

Applying to come here

Once you decide you would like a place in reception or at any other time after this, you must make a formal application, which can be made online at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

For the Normal Round intake into our academy, children are offered places to start in Reception at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday. Children who are admitted to a vacancy at any time after this point are called ‘In-Year’ Admissions.

The Local Authority

Devon County Council publishes information about admissions and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This is at www.devon.gov.uk/admissions

The appeals process is detailed at www.devon.gov.uk/educationandfamilies/school-information/apply-for-a-school-place/school-appeals

For questions about your child joining the Academy or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact the academy direct on 01548 560494 or by email at admissions@lapsw.org or contact  Devon School Admissions Service on 0345 155 1019 or by email to admissions@devon.gov.uk.

Our Admissions Policies

You can find our admissions policies below – we review the academy policy annually and may make changes if we feel this would be in the best interests of the academy and our community. Each academic year has its own policy document, with details about how to apply for a place in our academy from the start of Reception through to Year 6.

SCHOOL ADMISSIONS POLICY 2022-2023

Consultation on our Admissions Policy 2022-2023

Below you will see a link to our proposed admissions policy for 2022-23. We are consulting on this between 1 November and 8 January and invite any parent or other person with an interest in our admission arrangements to read the policy and make any comments you wish. You will see where there are changes, the text is in red – either something we propose to add or, if it has a line through it, something we propose to remove.

One of the proposals is to add children who have been adopted from state care outside of England to our oversubscription criterion 1. This is in anticipation that the Department for Education will require this change for all schools as it has just consulted on changes to the School Admissions Code. It is possible that the Department’s timescales may mean that the Code is not amended before the end of February, when we have to formally set our policy. If that is the case, we may have to determine our policy without that change and then alter it later in spring or summer. We are bringing it to your attention though as a change in policy that we expect to have to introduce.

Other than changes in red and dates moving forward a year, the way our policy will work is the same as in the previous year, 2021-22 which you can also see above.
If you have any comments, you can make them to Devon County Council which is co-ordinating the consultation. Further information is at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionarrangements. You will be able to view the proposed policies for all state-funded schools in Devon and the Local Authorities policies there too. The consultation ends on 8 January and all policies must be determined by 28 February 2021 and published in the same places by 15 March 2021. If you have any comments regarding the policy we propose, you can contact us at admissions@lapsw.org or schoolsadmissionpolicy-mailbox@devon.gov.uk.

Proposed 2022/2023 All Saints’ Thurlestone Admissions Policy

The Admissions Appeals Timetable 2020

The School Admissions (England) (Coronavirus) (Appeals Arrangements) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 apply to appeals that are submitted by parents on or before 31 January 2021. They amend the timescales and processes referred to in our admissions arrangements.

Appeals will not be heard at a face to face meeting. They will be heard by remote access – by video or telephone conference. Where it is not possible for a parent to take part by remote access, the appeal panel may make its decision based on the written information that is submitted.

A new deadline for appeals will be at least 28 calendar days from the date of the refusal to admit. Appeals will be heard as soon as possible after they are submitted with parents given at least 14 days’ written notice of an appeal hearing. Parents may not submit additional evidence on the day of the appeal.

Admissions Appeals Timetable 2021

Learning Academy Partnership (South West) as admissions authority for All Saints Thurlestone Academy must ensure that appeals lodged by the appropriate deadlines are heard within the following timescales:

  1. For applications made in the normal admissions round, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals on 14 May 2021.
  2. Where the application was not made in time for a decision to be made on 16 April 2021, they will be heard within that 40 day period or, if that is not possible, within 30 days of the appeal being lodged.
  3. For applications for in-year admissions, appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Any appeals submitted after the appropriate deadline must still be heard, in accordance with whatever timescale is set out in the timetable published by the admission authority.

We take part in the admissions schemes of Devon County Council which help parents to make applications for admission to school:
