Joining Reception

Welcome to our information page for families looking for a Reception place for their little one!

We are delighted that you are looking to join the All Saints’ Thurlestone family and we would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to the Learning Academy Partnership.  We look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure that your child has the best possible start to their primary education.

We believe that choosing your child’s first school is a hugely important decision, setting them on the path of a wonderful learning journey and onto future success.  At All Saints’ Thurlestone, we do everything we can to ensure our families are fully informed about the journey ahead; the curriculum that will be taught, the approach to teaching in the Foundation Stage, as well as the practical arrangements of starting school.

We love to welcome new families into our academy to look around our Reception class, the rest of the academy, meet our team and learn more about our unique offer here at All Saints’ Thurlestone.   If you would like to book a tour with Miss Kingston or Mrs Williams, please get in touch!  We love to share everything our wonderful school has to offer!

Please also visit other pages on our website, our Twitter page @ASTLAP or our new Facebook page to find out more about our fabulous academy; we work extremely hard to keep everything up to date, sharing all of the fabulous learning that takes place each term here in Yarmer and across the academy.

Remember, if you have any questions or queries, no matter how small they may seem, please feel free to contact the academy office and ask to speak to Miss Kingston (Hub EYFS Lead) or Mrs Williams (Interim Head of Academy) and they will be able to help.

Starting School Stories

Starting school can be a big transition for many children (and parents too).  Reading and sharing stories with your child can make such a massive difference.

Here are just some of the many starting school stories you could share together:

  • I am too absolutely small for school by Lauren Child
  • Starting School by Allan Ahlberg
  • Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School by Ian Whybrow
  • Little Rabbit Goes to School by Harry Horse
  • Fuzzypeg Goes to School by Alison Uttley
  • First Day at Bug School by Sam Lloyd
  • Starting School: Do I have to go to school? A first look at starting school by Pat Thomas
  • The Colour Monster Goes to School by Anna Llenas
  • The Wolf who wouldn’t go to school (Whiffy Wilson) by Caryl Hart
  • Lucy and Tom at School by Shirley Hughes
  • I Have to Start at School Today by Simon Philip
  • The Koala who Could by Rachel Bright
  • Boris Starts School by Carrie Weston and Tim Warnes
  • Come to School Too Blue Kangaroo! by Emma Chichester Clarke

Remember, if you do not have copies of the books, then it is really easy to find ‘read alouds’ on YouTube.
